Inscription:
In Memory of / Pte Thomas Lockwood / of Hill Top, Hoylandswaine / of the 2nd Batt KOYLI / who was killed in Action on Feby 9th 1916 / at Aveluy, France aged 36 years / He was awarded for Bravery the DCM and also the Russian Order of St George / "Soldier Rest, Thy Warfare O'er / Dream of Battlefields No More"

Advance notice of the unveiling ceremoney was given in the Barnsley Chronicle on 8 July 1916.

On Sunday a memorial tablet is to be unveiled in the Hoylandswaine Parish Church to the memory of the late Corporal Tom Lockwood, D.C.M., and Order of St.George, 2nd K.O.Y.L.I.

Thomas is also remembered on the
Hoylandswaine War Memorial, Barnsley Road, Hoylandswaine and possibly on the war memorial at Wombwell (yet to be proven)

He is buried in Aveluy Communal Cemetery Extension in France and commemorated on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website
